New Year K2 Knockout Race - Report

Bumper entry & lots of flow!

The 2023 NKC New Years day K2 Knockout Race attracted a bumper entry of 15 boats. As has become the custom some of the fastest paddlers in the club teamed up with Division 9 juniors and adults (including the odd parent!). The boat MUST have a combined divisional ranking of 9 or more and the lowest ranked paddler MUST drive. With the river high the two turns around Trent Bridge and Lady Bay Bridge were always going to involve some sword fighting! The early money was on the James Russell or Charlie Smith boats but Charlie and his partner took a dip leaving the final three of Holgate/Jones, Blatchly/Rinvolcri and Enoch/Enoch to fight out the final lap. Matt and Charlotte Enoch clipped a landing stage leaving it a 2 boat race. Steph and Martin had the quicker bottom turn but Nigel Jones and Lucy Holgate just had the power on the line. £20 to the winners and £108 to the club charity of the year. The spectators were never bored! Excellent pictures thanks to Dave Singleton on the gallery page.
